Zurich & Bern: Different Rallies
The Humanists participated on several manifestations: October 5th:
against the role of the Swiss Banks in the crash of Swissair and the dismissal
of thousands of employees. October 13th and December 7th: rallies against
the war in Afghanistan. October 19th: In the frame of the campaign of
the Humanist International "For a World without War and Violence",
a peace rally with 50 participants took place to the British consulate
in Zurich. We distributed various instruments and at 12:00 AM the demonstrators
made one "minute of noise". The declaration was read, followed
by the reading of the protest letter to the government of the UK. Finally,
all the documents were handed over to the British consul. The declaration
and protest letters were sent to 19 embassies and 30 mass media, and another
letter to the Swiss federal council. During November, we held for 4 weeks
a daily "Memorial Watch" in a central place of Zurich. During
one hour every evening we were collecting signatures for the declaration
of the Humanist International "For a World without war and violence",
using candles and a banner on which it was written "Against War and
Violence". On November 24th, we participated on a rally for the so-called
"paperless" people, which are foreigners living in Switzerland
without legal papers. With this activity we expressed our solidarity with
the foreigners and refugees, supporting their demand of a collective legalisation.
